NS2HD[305] - Basic Marine Structure Tute - Natural Selection 2 Beta

Natural Selection 2 is a first person shooter cross real time strategy game being developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, a small ~6 person team in California. It is a stand alone sequel to the popular Half-Life modification Natural Selection. The game is currently in beta, and is available to purchase for US$35. Purchasing the game gives access to the beta and the full release when the game is finished. The beta is patched regularly, at a minimum every two weeks. NS2 pits the human marine Frontiersmen against the varied alien Kharaa. The two teams, of up to 16 players each, vie for control of strategic points of large and small maps, with the goal of wiping each other out. Each team has a commander, who views the game from a real time strategy perspective. The rest of the team plays from a first person shooter perspective. Players may seamlessly enter and exit commander mode throughout the game. Teams may build a large variety of structures to aid them in controlling territory, upgrading equipment, and unlocking new lifeforms, weapons, abilities, and support units. The game is built on a brand new, UWE proprietry engine called Spark. Spark features fully dynamically lit environments (There is no static lighting at all), dynamic occlusion culling, and extreme modability. All game code is written in accessible Lua, and stands apart from the C++ engine. A full suite of Spark tools, including level editor, lua debugger, cinematic editor, model viewer, and more is included ...

Gametip - Natural Selection

Here's a tip for all of you who own the first Half-Life game, and have missed this great mod. I'm aware Half-Life nor any of its mods (except perhaps CS 1.6) is the hot shit anymore, but I'd like to spend 5 minutes showcasing my favorite mod, Natural Selection, which still today holds up well. Natural Selection is a multiplayer sci-fi mod, where two teams, aliens and marines, battle each other. There are two gametypes: Normal - The marine side has a commander which issues orders to the rest of the team. The commander sees everything from an RTS perspective where he or she can build various structures. Players on the alien team are free to build as they want. Both teams get resources from special outlets which can be conquered. Combat - High adrenaline games without a commander where the only goal is to eliminate the opposite teams hive/command. You gain experience as you participate in the fighting, which allows you to upgrade different aspects of your character. In this video I'm only playing the combat gametype. First 2 minutes marine, then 2 minutes alien. There is a sequel in the works which should be out this year! NS Trailer: www.youtube.com NS2 Pre Alpha: www.youtube.com

Natural Selection 2 Teaser Trailer

Natural Selection 2 is an immersive, online FPS that pits aliens against humans in a strategic and action-packed struggle for survival. It is a standalone commercial sequel to the popular Half-Life mod and is scheduled for release in Fall 2009. * Two Unique Sides Whether you play as one of the elite marine Frontiersmen or the vicious alien Kharaa, you must use unique strategies and your abilities to win. Marines form persistent squads to find and destroy alien hives. Aliens can choose a wall-running Skulk, pudgy Gorge, flying Lerk, murderous Fade or gigantic Onos that can devour enemies whole. * Real-time Strategy - Commanders play from overhead to lead their team to victory. Build structures anywhere, collect resources, and research upgrades. Marines buy weapons at an Armory or build sentry turrets and siege cannons to assault the enemy. Aliens build upgrade chambers, evolve special abilities and plant traps. * Dynamic Environments Spreading alien infestation deforms hallways and causes space station power failure, turning off lights and shutting down marine powered structures. Use a flamethrower to clear infestation or weld a bulkhead shut for a last defense. Every game is different. * Unlimited Variations - WYSIWYG graphical tools and powerful scripting allow you to create new weapons, scenarios or entirely new games. You'll get all our tools and Lua source code we're using to build NS2. Ongoing automatic updates keep the game fresh by adding new maps, weapons and ...

Evolution - Selection In Action 5of6

The products of natural, and human, selection are all around us. Humans have transformed wild plants into useful crops by selective breeding. Human selection has also produced pets and other domesticated animals with sizes and shapes very different from their wild ancestors. Controlled genetic crosses can be used to identify and locate the genes responsible for artificial selection in domesticated species. Genetic crosses in maize and dogs, for example, suggest that relatively few genetic changes are needed to dramatically transform the shape and structure of plants and animals. Natural selection in wild populations can also generate amazing diversity in a surprisingly short amount of time. Ocean stickleback fish, for example, colonized numerous freshwater streams and lakes produced by retreating glaciers after the last ice age. Differential survival and reproduction under natural selection have generated dramatic changes in morphology, physiology, and behavior as the fish adapted to different food sources, predators, and water conditions. How does nature convert a marine ancestor into diverse freshwater forms? Once again, genetic studies suggest that major evolutionary changes are controlled by a few key genes. Further study of such genes will provide a molecular portrait of how plants and animals have been transformed by artificial and natural selection. www.hhmi.org http
